Clinical Studies on 81 Cases of Acute Glomerulonephrits

Abstract
We observed 81 cases of acute glomerulonephritis that were admitted to Severance Hospital, dept. ofped. during the 4 year period from 1959 to 1962.
1) The incidence of acute glomerulonephritis among all of the inpatients was 3.8%, with a sex ratio of male 1.8: female 1.
The age incidenc was highest in the 7 to 8 year range, and the seasonal peak incidence was from September to November
2) According to predisposing infections, upper respiratory infections showed the highest percentage, 49.4%, but the identification of causative organism, beta-homolytic streptococci, from throat swab was very difficult.
3) The presenting symptoms were: edema in 90.1%, oliguria in 32.0 f4, hematuria and dyspnea in 17.2%,fevor in 16.O%, convulsion in 8.6%, polakisuria in6.2%, vomiting in 4.9% , abdominal pain in 3.7%,e Pistaxis in 1.2%.Most of the patients visited the hospital 5 to 10days after the initial complaints.
4) Laboratorv finding revealed proteinuria, hematuria, mild anemia , mild degree of leucocytosis, increased E.S.R. and decreased serum albumin.
5) Hypertension was seen in 52,2%, with more prominent clinical findings of cardiac enlargement, pulmonary eaema, pleural reaction and cardiac murmur etc.
6) Congestive heart failure, hypertensive encephalopathy and uremic coma were complication we saw, and the rate of recovery was 83.9%,The prognisis was worse in the cases accompanied by nephrotic syndrome.
7) The follow up studies could not be obtained satisfactorily for lack of cooperation of the patients.
